Frequently Asked Questions
Find answers to the most common questions about Liverpool Bonk Squad, our rides, membership, and more.
General Questions
Liverpool Bonk Squad is a community of cycling enthusiasts based in Liverpool. We organise group rides, social events, training sessions, and more for cyclists of all levels. Our goal is to foster a friendly, supportive community that encourages everyone to enjoy cycling.
Not at all! We welcome cyclists of all experience levels. Our events are categorised by difficulty, so you can choose rides that match your abilities. For beginners, we recommend starting with our "easy" category rides and gradually working your way up as your confidence and fitness improve.
The type of bike needed depends on the event. For most road events, a road bike is ideal, but many members use gravel bikes, hybrids, or even mountain bikes for road rides. Each event listing specifies the recommended bike type. The most important thing is that your bike is in good working condition.
Membership
You are welcome to join your first few rides without being a member, but membership will give you access to all of our events and benefits.
The membership fee is £25 per year, with a £1 application fee from British Cycling.
You can cancel your membership at any time from your account dashboard. Navigate to the Membership section and manage your subscription on British Cycling. If you need assistance, please contact us through our Contact form.
Events and Rides
Browse our calendar to find upcoming rides. Click on an event for details and registration options. Most rides only require registration so we know who to expect. After registering, you'll receive confirmation and further details by email.
We ride in most weather conditions, but safety is our priority. In case of severe weather (lightning, ice, heavy snow, or extreme wind), rides may be cancelled or modified. We'll notify all registered participants by email at least 2 hours before the event in case of changes or cancellations. You can also check the WhatsApp group for updates.
Absolutely! We encourage members to get involved. If you'd like to suggest a route or volunteer to lead a ride, please create your own route on the routes page. We'll help you through the process and provide resources for ride leaders.
